Kuwait Finance House (KFH) has called on customers to be cautious when donating to disaster victims through fake websites.
KFH warned of the dangers of new forms of fraud that have recently emerged by ensuring the safety, integrity, and truth of the website through which the donation is made.
As part of its efforts to support the "Diraya" campaign to spread banking awareness in cooperation with the Central Bank of Kuwait and the Kuwait Banking Association, KFH pointed out in a press release that scammers are using new means of fraud.
Additionally, fraudsters are taking advantage of the technical development in the means of payment and the increasing importance of smartphones and the Internet. They target the millions of customers who complete their transactions and daily dealings online, luring them to obtain important information about their accounts and steal their money.
KFH noted that fraudsters tend to take advantage of natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and wars. They do this by sending emails asking for donations through bank transfers or fake website payments, with the intention of stealing victims' money.
Also, fraudsters may use advanced AI techniques and a wide network of data to review online purchases and patterns that indicate the characteristics of potential customers that can be stolen or breached.
It is worth noting that fraud has become feasible in targeting people of all ages and societal levels. It can take various forms, such as enticing yet false offers, a warning from your bank regarding an account issue, an online friend request, or a plea for assistance over the phone.
